Winter 2008
FLU VACCINATION
Flu season has arrived. Flu vaccinations are recommended
for any patients over the age of 65 or those with long
term medical conditions such as diabetes, heart disease,
asthma and COPD. Flu vaccines are still available for
patients in these groups who have not yet been
vaccinated. Please contact reception for an appointment.
HEART DISEASE PREVENTION
Penistone Group Practice is keen to promote good health
and offer patients the opportunity of preventing
disease and illness. Currently the practice is taking
steps to identify any patient who might be at a slightly
higher risk of developing heart disease.
People with raised blood pressure or a family history of
heart disease or stroke could be at increased risk. The
risk may also be higher for smokers. Blood tests can be
useful to help decide if patients in this group would
benefit from treatment.
If you fit this group you may already have discussed
prevention of heart disease with a doctor or nurse. If
not, and you would like to discuss this further, please
contact reception for an appointment, or ask about heart
disease prevention when you next attend surgery.
