Repeat Prescriptions and Dispensary

We run a repeat prescription service for patients who are taking medication regularly.

This is based on a 28-day prescription, as the NHS and Barnsley PCT advise that this is “best practice”. Repeat prescriptions are dealt with by our Dispensary staff.

There are a number of ways to order your prescriptions:

• Drop your repeat slip in at the surgery.
   
• Post your repeat slip to us. If you include a SAE, we can post the signed prescription back to you.
   
• Phone your request to dispensary on 01226-762424 (followed by option 3) between 11a.m. and 3p.m. Monday to Friday. You will need your “patient number” which is on the top, right-hand corner of your repeat slip. Medication to be collected from Thurgoland should be ordered directly on 0114-2882243 between 10a.m. & 12p.m. each weekday.
   
• You are now able to request repeat medication online using the surgery EMIS medical system.

Please allow 2 full working days between ordering your prescription and collection (this allows time for queries to be resolved).

If you live more than 1 mile (as the crow flies) from a pharmacy, you can collect your medication from the dispensary in either our Penistone surgery or the branch surgeries at Thurgoland or Silkstone. Please tell us where you would like to collect your medication.

Alternatively, we offer a delivery service to your home address for those unable to leave their homes. Our dispensary staff deliver to different areas of the practice on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. Please contact dispensary for more details.

If you live within 1 mile of a pharmacy, statutory regulations mean that we cannot give you your medication at the surgery. You must take the prescription to a pharmacy instead.

Please note: the dispensary at Penistone closes every Wednesday between 12.30 and 2.45p.m. for stock taking and staff training purposes.

Urgent medication requiring a prescription out of surgery hours should be requested from the out of hours deputising service (see “When the Surgery is Closed”). Lloyds Pharmacy in Midland Street, Barnsley is the nearest late-opening dispensing pharmacy.
